I want you to say this to yourself throughout the week, self-care isn’t a luxury it is necessary
- The goal for today is to grasp the concept of self-care and its significance in discovering your true self. By understanding this, you can become the best version of yourself and recognize the signs that indicate when you are ready to show up with a full cup.
Topic 1: What is Self-Care
- Self-care is caring for your mental health; in a similar way someone might care for their physical health.
- This can be seen as taking the time to do things that help live well in life
Topic 2: Let’s Define the role you play in self-care
- There are benefits for self-care that are present for you
- Self-Care can provide help in managing stress and anxiety and this can be done through engaging in meditation, yoga, or spending time outside in nature.
- Self-care can help prevent illness from occurring and reoccurring by knowing how you can handle stress and recover from the adversities that life throws your way.
- It is a way to stay connected to yourself, which means it is important for you to protect your self-care activities.
- What might this look like if it isn’t a spa day? Well it could be a spa day you have on the calendar to go with your bestie, but it can also just look simple, but it is time you place on your calendar for you or time you put on the calendar as a standing date with a partner, family member, friend or so on.
- It can be as simple as turning on your do not disturb on your phone while you are having your morning hot tea and reading your devotional.
- Remember self-care activities leave you relaxed, energized, and refreshed, if you do not find this and you are finding yourself depleted then you need to evaluate why it is leaving you depleted.
- As you learn yourself you will be able to see the indicators of being depleted. Personally, I can see when my nutrition isn’t in the self-care format that I need it to be in because my body begins to be sluggish or my other one is movement. Even when I feel my sickest with a chron’s flare, if I do not get up and move in some way then I will always feel worse. Or my creative side is another place I can always see when I need to do something from baking, cooking a new dish, painting, or just getting hands on in my creativeness for my self-care. This one for me has taken different formats over the years, but always has been an important piece of Becca. My biggest indicator though in self-care is when I cannot journal and do my devotional time. I have found this time since I was about a seven-year-old little girl was at night when I would go to bed and then spent two or three hours in this space as I got older and through in my single years this could stay at night as I was heading off to bed. However, when I got married this had to change because it became the time my husband and I got to really connect in conversation, so now I find the time and space to typically happen in the morning. And with my son I am finding the time to happen during his first morning nap right now!
Topic 3: Activities for Self-Care
- A few tips for prioritizing you in self-care:
- Eat balanced meals, this season on the Stacked Intent podcast we are going to be taking a deep dive into how you are important in your nutrition. So, be sure to tune into those episodes to get in-depth here.
- Drink plenty of water to keep your body hydrated. This means at the same time limit your caffeinated drinks and limit sodas and alcoholic beverages
- Get in at least 30 minutes of physical activity day (this means if you work a labor-intensive job then you need to add in some kind of additional movement because that is your body’s normal.)
-
- Incorporate relaxation and stress-reducing activities into your day. From yoga, meditation, breathing exercises, listening to music, journaling, or a hobby. These are activities and resets you can enjoy for yourself or ones you can enjoy with someone else. Hobbies are a great way to keep the mind busy all while maybe even developing a new skill.
- Get sleep! There is a blog that talks all about this in our Stacked Intent Blog that is designed as a resource for you in becoming the truest version of self. I’ll link that post in the notes (https://www.stackedintent.com/blog/giveyourselfthegiftofrest). Your ideal is to get seven to nine hours of sleep each night. This also is when you should limit or avoid looking at your phone or computer before bed to help eliminate the blue light that can make it a challenge to fall asleep.
