In their book Words Can Change Your Brain, Dr. Andrew Newberg, a neuroscientist at Thomas Jefferson University, and Mark Robert Waldman, a communications expert, explain that “a single word has the power to influence the expression of genes that regulate physical and emotional stress.” They go on to explain that cultivating positive thoughts can actually reshape your reality. By focusing on a positive, optimistic word, you stimulate the frontal lobe, which houses language centers linked to the motor cortex that drives action. Their research shows that the more you focus on positive words, the more they influence other areas of the brain.

· So Why Not Choose A Word to Guide Your Year? This year, I have chosen "Self-Acceptance" as my guiding word, and we will delve into this topic. You can explore it further in my blog post this week, where I explain why I selected this word.

 Brief Summary of objectives (3):

Objective One : Choose Your Word Wisely. Your word of the year sets the tone—pick one that inspires and empowers you to grow in 2025!
Objective Two : Stick to It Daily. Let your word guide your choices with affirmations, mindfulness, and celebrating small wins every day.
Objective Three: Set SMART Goals. Break your big vision into achievable steps and keep yourself accountable to make it happen!

·       Did you know that your new year’s resolution struggles can be because of the way your brain is wired?  It is possible wired for prioritizing instant gratification over delayed and not wanting to wait for the bigger reward, which is when the failure of a new year’s resolution takes over.

·       Welcome into 2025 as a New Year a lot of times is followed with lots of new year resolutions! Though there have been surveys done that say within four months is about how far they last. I am sharing this podcast because I want you to really invest in yourself in a resolution that you will be proud of in 2026.

·       Selecting a theme word for the year can be beneficial in shaping your goals and lifestyle around this focus, helping you connect with the life you aspire to create in the coming years. However, it's essential to be ready to put in the hard work now to achieve that desired lifestyle later.

·       By choosing a theme word, you set an intention that acts as a guiding principle throughout the year. This word becomes a beacon, reminding you of your aspirations and motivating you to align your actions with your desired outcomes. Whether it's "growth," "balance," "courage," or "joy," your theme word can inspire you to make decisions that resonate with your core values.

·       To make the most of your theme word, consider incorporating it into daily practices. You might journal about what the word means to you, create a vision board that reflects your goals, or set specific milestones that align with your theme. Reflecting regularly on your progress can also help you stay committed and adjust as needed.

·       Remember, the journey is just as important as the destination. Embrace the challenges and celebrate the small victories along the way. With dedication and an open heart, your theme word can lead you to a year of meaningful transformation and personal growth.

·       Though remember to have a commitment to the new year’s resolution you put into places, because research has shown that a reason people miss their goals and fail is because of a lack of commitment to their own goals.

Topic 1: Why Choose A Word

o  Choosing a word of the year can provide clarity and focus, guiding you toward the person you want to become and the goals you want to achieve. A thoughtfully selected word acts as a mental mentor, offering inspiration and direction throughout the year.

o  A word of the year is like a compass, helping you stay aligned with your values and intentions. It’s a simple yet powerful way to inspire growth, set priorities, and navigate challenges throughout the year.

o   As you are choosing to be selective, because these are a few reasons new year’s resolutions can fail:

  • Because you are setting a resolution for tradition’s sake rather than for you to have a goal in mind for change
  • Unexpected obstacles that we do not account for, plan for, and might have just unavoidable barriers that can cause setbacks or a failure
  • Not breaking a goal into smaller chunks and just setting out for a big lofty goal
  • Not having accountable for you new years resolution. This can be by writing it down and by having an accountable partner.

Topic 2: Sticking to Your word

o   Self-Care

  • Daily Affirmations Matched with Your Word: Start each morning by repeating a simple affirmation inspired by your chosen word. For example, if your word is "balance," say: I am creating harmony in my life, one step at a time. Kick off each day with an affirmation that reflects your word of the year. Let your word guide your energy and mindset!
  • Mindfulness Check-Ins: Pause throughout the day to ask yourself: Am I living in alignment with my word right now? This reflection helps you stay connected to your intentions. You can turn small, everyday moments into mindful practices. Take a pause to soak it all in and let the word you choose to shape these moments — maybe a calming cup of tea while breathing deeply becomes your mini ritual.
  • Celebrate Small Wins: Keep a journal where you note small actions or moments that reflect your word of the year. This practice will help you build momentum and confidence It is like giving yourself a high five for every little step you take toward the bigger picture, and that is a huge part of feeling good and staying motivated!

o   Organizational Tips: Implementing your word is not just about thinking about it — it is about making it a living, breathing part of your everyday routine. These organizational tips will help you stay on track and keep your word front and center as you move through the year.

  • Create a Vision Board — Collect images, quotes, and affirmations that represent your word and your goals for the year. Whether you prefer a physical poster or a digital creation, place your vision board somewhere you will see it often to remind yourself of your intentions. This constant visual cue helps keep your word front and center, sparking motivation and focus every time you catch a glimpse! You can easily create one on your computer using apps to clip images and visuals that resonate with your word or go old-school with a paper board to pin your ideas and dreams.
  • Quarterly Progress Check-Ins — Every three months, take a moment to check in with yourself and see how you are doing with your word. Grab a notebook or your phone, and jot down what has been going well and where you can improve. Celebrate those little wins—whether it is staying calm when things get hectic or sticking to your goals. This helps you feel proud of your progress and gives you the chance to adjust your focus if needed. It is like a mini reset to keep your momentum going and remind yourself how far you have come!
  •  Track Your Habits — Use a journal to monitor small, actionable steps that reflect your word. This tool helps maintain focus and accountability throughout the year.
  • Create a Win Wall or Digital Folder — Whether you prefer paper or digital, set up a space to collect and display your wins. For a physical win wall, stick up post-its or photos representing your achievements. For a digital version, create a folder or scrapbook on your phone or computer where you save screenshots, journal entries, or even photos that reflect your progress. Looking back at these reminders of success will help you stay motivated and proud. Set aside a special time — like the end of each month — to reflect on your progress and share it with a friend, family member, or even social media. Sharing your wins not only boosts your own confidence but inspires others to celebrate their own.

o   Make sure you have accountability on your goals, because studies have shown that when you write your goals down and set up accountability you are more likely to achieve your goals.

·      Tell a friend

·      Create or join an accountability group

·      Measure your milestones
